There's a very important movement going on right now as a result of very heinous crime and a very brave woman. By now you've probably heard about the Stanford rape trial, the unjust sentencing the attacker received, and read the powerful letter the victim wrote -- as appalling as all of the details of this case are, it's even more disheartening to know that she is one of many, many victims. As upsetting as it is to see the pervasiveness of rape culture and its negative impact it has on the lives of so many women, we have this amazing Stanford woman to thank for shedding light on the issue and giving a voice to so many victims with her profound letter.
We are honored and proud to support GRLCVLT, a secret internet group of women who have pledged to not let the trend of "suffering of women as secondary to the advancement of men" to continue. At Pour Vous, a venue in Los Angeles, tonight we are writing letters to unseat Judge Persky, the judge who presided over this case and provided the attacker with an unjust lenient sentencing. On Wednesday, the NYC chapter of GRLCVLT held their event which drew hundreds of supporters -- we hope to do the same!
Music at tonight's event will be provided by DJ Lola Langusta, Valida, Smiles Davis, and Cathleen Cher. There will be performances by Vōx and Quiñ. If you cannot join us, please sign this petition and join us in helping us put an end to rape culture.
