Our Story

Strita DTLA is a lingerie line that strives to empower women to embrace their sexuality with garments that are sleek and meant to be seen. Named after St. Rita, the patron saint of the impossible, Strita DTLA encourages wearers to feel confident about their bodies through their fashion choices. All of the pieces can be worn as functional underwear, layered as part of an outfit, or displayed as standalone pieces.  Strita DTLA stands as a vehicle for one to take ownership of their sexuality and break free of traditional definitions of femininity and what is sexy.

Women are stripped of their sexuality by society in so many ways—through oppressive cultural and gender norms, sexual assault experiences and rape culture, imposed beauty standards, aging, becoming a mother, the list goes on. Strita DTLA wants to invite all people who identify as women to tell their stories about their relationship with their sexuality and how they’ve reclaimed ownership of it.

Our collection is designed and manufactured locally, where every stitch and detail has been obsessed over with our own eyes. From our fabric choices down to the thread we use, we have sourced only the best to create a line that prioritizes comfort, durability, versatility, and most importantly, flattery on the female figure.

Esther, Cathleen, & Huyen

The original founder of the brand, Cathleen's own journey with the struggle of reclaiming her sexuality as a woman was the basis for the concept of Strita. Cathleen's career background is mainly in music, she's toured with artists such as Kanye West and has DJ'd internationally, as well as produced her own music. Her trials and tribulations of navigating an industry very largely dominated by men coupled with the uncomfortable feeling of being at odds with how she should be in her own body, drove her to create a lingerie line made by women, for women, so they have the ability to make a fashion choice that empowers them, everyday.

An experienced stylist and designer of her own line of unisex clothing, Esther has always had an eye for fashion. She sees beauty in everything and strives to make the world a more beautiful place, whether through fashion or other avenues. Growing up, Esther struggled with reconciling the differences between her femininity and masculinity and what it meant to "act like a lady." Because of this, when Cathleen, her friend since 7th grade, came to her with the idea of Strita DTLA, she felt compelled to jump on. Through working with Strita, she has learned to grow more comfortable in herself, both personally and physically, and hopes that Strita's message will help all women in their journey to self-improvement and empowerment.

Focusing on the process of design and production,
Huyen is our guru of the apparel industry. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, she moved back to LA where she was introduced to the other partners of Strita DTLA. Growing up on the streets of both LA and DC, she believes in the philosophy that juxtaposition makes for the best outcome. Harmonizing a design style that is carefree yet functional, she helps carry out the brand’s vision of versatility. As a new mother to a beautiful baby girl, the ideas of embracing female empowerment is now more important to her than ever. She hopes many women will continue to identify with Strita’s message as she has.
